HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND ANNIVERSARY DINNER CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa to Present Keynote Address

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education, will celebrate the culmination of thirty years of accomplishments with a celebration in Los Angeles on May 22nd. The keynote address will be presented by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa. Mayor Villaraigosa has had an outstanding career in public service, serving as Assembly Speaker in the California State Assembly and as Mayor of Los Angeles.
The 30th Anniversary Dinner will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel. For more information on the event, members of the public are encouraged to call 415-808-2329 or to e-mail HSF30@hsf.net.
Anheuser-Busch is the presenting sponsor of the event, with additional sponsorship support provided by ING Foundation, Time Warner, The Coca-Cola Company, The ExxonMobil, The UPS Foundation, Target Corporation and General Motors Corporation.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund was founded in 1975 by educator Ernest Robles, community activist Paul Sedillo and Archbishop Patrick Flores. They believed that in order to create educational and economic equality for Latinos in the United States, they needed to create a source of financial assistance and information to enable promising youth to pursue higher education. In their first year of operations, their seed money was $30,000 in scholarships that Ernest Robles obtained through mortgaging his own home.

The fledging organization was rapidly able to gain support from corporations, foundations and private citizens who recognized the importance of its work in creating a new generation of Latinos who could be leaders in their careers and communities. Corporations also valued the opportunity to train an American workforce that could meet the demands of today's workplace. With their support, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund now distributes at least $25 million a year in scholarships to promising students. In aggregate, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has distributed $170 million in scholarships since its founding.

The 30th Anniversary Dinner will be a chance to honor the organization's proud history and to thank the donors who have made a long-term, major commitment to supporting the Hispanic Scholarship Fund's mission. Awards will be given to major donors in five major categories, including Anheuser-Busch Companies for their two decades of corporate sponsorship; the Lilly Endowment, a private foundation that is being recognized for two landmark grants to HSF; the McNamara Family Foundation, Inc. for being HSF's largest individual donor; the New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education for its ongoing commitment to community-based scholarship funding initiatives, and Time-Warner, Inc. for its in-kind media contributions to increase the visibility of HSF's mission and work.

Additional recognition at the dinner will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities, The Coca-Cola Company, Toyota Motor Sales, General Motors Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Bank of America Foundation, AT&T, Altria Group, The Goldman Sachs Foundation, Proctor & Gamble Company, Ford Motor Company, Verizon Foundation, Citigroup Foundation, Sallie Mae, The UPS Foundation, HSBC - North America, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Group, Wells Fargo Foundation, Eastman Kodak Company, General Mills Foundation, American Express, Nissan North America, DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, GE Foundation, Morgan Stanley Foundation, Nationwide Insurance, ExxonMobil and Microsoft Corporation.
